Miramar - is a place in Panaji city in the state of Goa, India. It is the
nearest beach to the Goan capital and unarguably the most visited beach of Goa.

Originally named Gasper- de-dias because of the Portuguese influence, the name
was then changed to the ever-popular Miramar.
- This is the oldest and
most interesting area in Panaji. a charming area west of Pato, is one of

chapel was built in the 1880s and contains a lifelike crucifix. It is now hung
in the Palace of the Inquisition in Old Goa.An annual street fiesta is held

Palace - This palace was
built by the famous Muslim ruler of Goa, Adil Shah. This is one of the oldest
building in Panaji.The Portuguese used it as the Viceroyâ€™s Palace till 1759.
Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church - was originally built in 1541. It is the most
prominent and elegant church in Panaji. It has a beautiful gilded main altar.

Francis of Assisi Church and Archeological Museum - West of the Cathedral (behind it) is the
Convent and Church of St Francis of Assisi, one of the most interesting
buildings in the town. Franciscan monks built the original church in 1517.
Cathedral - is a cathedral
dedicated to Catherine of Alexandria, located in Old Goa, India. It is one of
the oldest and most celebrated religious buildings in Goa and is one of the
largest churches in Asia.

richly gilded altars is famous throughout the Catholic world. 'Bom Jesus is the
name used for the infant Jesus. The cathedral is Indiaâ€™s first
Minor Basilica, and is considered as one of the best examples of baroque
architecture in India. It contains the body of St. Francis Xavier; a
member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) founded by St. Ignatius Loyola. St.
Francis Xavier died while on a sea voyage to China on December 2, 1552.

Gamaâ€™s landing in India by his great-grandson Francisco da Gama, who was
viceroy from 1597 to 1600.
